From the Principal, Mrs. Atta:Traffic Reminders:
HS Traffic Flow & Students: Students, please remember to not walk down the hill as you go to the high school. The hill usually has cones blocking it but in the afternoon the cones are removed and cars/trucks will be using the roadway. You will not be able to see them as your back will be facing the traffic flow. Walk on the sidewalk and yellow safety striped areas.
MS Parking: Parents, please remember to park only in the Visitor Stalls only. Our teachers are assigned to all numbered stalls. If your vehicle blocks the stalls, it keeps our staff waiting and clogs the traffic flow. So please help us by keeping the numbered stalls clear.

http://www.hba.net/student_life/handbook Section Middle School & High School Student Life
Each student attending HBA has a right to learn in a safe and friendly environment, free from bullying or harassment about appearance, race, gender, religion, or ethnic group.

➢ hitting, shoving, kicking another student.
➢ damaging or stealing another student's property.
➢ name-calling, mocking, hurtful teasing.
➢ humiliating or threatening someone.
➢ making someone do things against his or her wishes.
In addition, bullying may take the form of intimidation through deliberate social exclusion of the victim. Behaviors include, but are not limited to, the following:
➢ intentionally excluding someone from the group and urging others to do the same.
➢ spreading gossip or rumors about someone or threatening to reveal his or her secrets and to make him or her look foolish.
➢ using electronic devices -- computer, e-mail, instant messaging, phone or cellular phone text messages-- for the ends mentioned above.
Possible Consequences:
➢ Parent Contact/Conference, and
➢ Behavior Contract.
➢ Suspension
➢ Or Expulsion from HBA
Behavior Contract may include:
➢ Warnings and Counselor Interventions
➢ Saturday/Break Detention
➢ No after school sports, field trips and camps
If you are bullied: What can you do?➢ Get help talk to an adult – don’t keep it secret
➢ Avoid the bully, find a safe place
➢ Be with other people, safe people
➢ Revenge is not the answer, it’s trouble
You see someone bullied: How can you help?➢ Be a friend, tell them to stop!
➢ Listen, if they tell you.
➢ Be a peacemaker (mediator), no retaliation.
➢ Talk to a teacher, principal, counselor or trusted adult right away. Bring your friend.
Discuss what else might you do?
Our 2nd Quarter BeAttitude Focus: Be Thoughtful Students will be nominated by their advisory/homeroom teachers and awards will be given out with gift cards at the December BeAttitudes Assembly.
• Doing what you can to help others without expecting anything in return.
• Not laughing at others’ misfortunes or mistakes.
• Helping your parents or teachers when they are busy or stressed by doing your chores or passing out supplies in the classroom without being asked.
• Befriending a new or lonely student at school. Choose your words with thought.
• Show listening attentively to parents, teachers or friends through eye contact and verbal feedback. A good friend will stop another friend from gossiping or spreading rumors.
Ask your parents the following questions and share your thoughts:
1. What makes me impatient and behave thoughtlessly with my family or friends?
2. When do I think people are treating me without thought or consideration? How does that make me feel? What could I do to let them know how I feel?
3. How does it benefit me to show thoughtfulness to others?
A small group of thoughtful people could change the world.
Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

From 7th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Chandler:7th grade: There is power in a simple gift. Bless a child this Christmas by filling a shoebox with toys and necessities. Also, remember to include a $7 check to help with shipping and other expenses, payable to Samaritan's Purse. Due Friday, November 13. God bless you!
From NJHS Advisor, Mrs. QuekNJHS Food DriveHave you ever suffered from hunger for longer than a day? If so, you will understand the urgent need to help the poor and the homeless, especially during this Thanksgiving season.
The NJHS is sponsoring a food drive for the next three weeks and encourage you to show your compassion and support. All food collected will be donated to the River of Life, a Christian homeless shelter.
Here's how you can participate:
What to bring: Bags of rice; boxed pasta meals; canned food, especially those high in protein like SPAM, chili, corned beef, beef stew, chunky chicken soups, tuna, and salmon; peanut butter; juice.
When to bring it: Any day between now and Wednesday, November 25, but the sooner, the better!
Where to put it: an NJHS food drive box will be placed in every homeroom for your convenience.
Though virtue (goodness) is its own reward, the NJHS wants to offer an ice-cream treat to the homeroom that makes the greatest contribution to our food drive! Please help us help others!
