From the Principal, Mrs. Atta:

Exam Reminders:
1.    Go to bed early to get a good night’s sleep. You’ll do better on your exams.
2.    Keep yourself hydrated throughout the week to avoid colds and to give your brain sufficient H20. It will help to keep you alert and those synapses firing during the exams.
3.    Do your best and keep yourself honest by not incurring any academic dishonesty violations. Your entire exam or project will be given a zero besides demerits and other consequences.
4.    Eat a good breakfast each day.
5.    Be in dress code, it’s not Winter Break yet!
6.    Remember - campus departure time is 11:20 on Thursday and Friday. Be sure to have your parents pick you up.

BeAttitudes ASSEMBLY

Eagles, Job Well Done!
We have had a number of competitions (Math Challenge, Spelling Bee and Geography Bee) in the past few weeks and will be awarding participants certificates and Jamba Juice cards at the upcoming BeAttitude Assembly. The awards are all part of the Middle School Young Eagle Student Success (YESS) System:
ABC BeAttitude
You choose your…Attitude.
You choose your…Behavior.
You reap the results in Celebration or Consequence.
Your Choices build your Character.
At HBA Middle School, we take care of ourselves, each other and this place.

Our 2nd Quarter BeAttitude Focus:  Be Thoughtful : Students who are nominated by their advisory/homeroom teachers will receive awards with gift cards at the December BeAttitudes Assembly.  Students demonstrated actions that displayed:
•    Doing what you can to help others without expecting anything in return.
•    Not laughing at others’ misfortunes or mistakes.
•    Helping your parents or teachers when they are busy or stressed by doing your chores or passing out supplies in the classroom without being asked.
•    Befriending a new or lonely student at school. Choose your words with thought.
•    Show listening attentively to parents, teachers or friends through eye contact and verbal feedback.  A good friend will stop another friend from gossiping or spreading rumors.
Students were asked to share with their families the following questions:
1.    What makes me impatient and behave thoughtlessly with family or friends?
2.    When do I think people are treating me without thought or consideration? How does that make me feel? What could I do to let them know how I feel?
3.    How does it benefit me to show thoughtfulness to others?

A small group of thoughtful people could change the world.
Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead

Beginning of 2nd Semester Reminders from MS Front Office, Mrs. Matsushima:
NEW CALL-IN TIME FOR STUDENT ABSENCE AND HOMEWORK REQUEST PROCEDURE:
Starting in the 2nd Semester, we will be changing our homework request / pick-up policy, in an effort to “Go Green”.  Please note the following changes:

CALL-IN TIME FOR STUDENT ABSENCES:  Please call your child’s absence to the MS office at 595-6302 by 7:30 a.m. each day your child will be absent.  You may leave a message to include your child’s name, nature of illness, and contact phone number where you can be reached.  We want to be sure that we can account for your child during the first class of the school day.

HOMEWORK REQUEST PROCEDURE:  If you would like to request homework, please e-mail dmatsushima@hba.net.  We will e-mail your child’s homework by 3:30 p.m. that day.

Reminders: As the winter season is upon us, please remember to keep your child home if he / she is feeing ill.  Sending your child to school when sick exposes the other students as well as teachers, to illnesses and colds.  This could result in numerous student and teacher absences.  Your child must also be fever-free (without the aid of fever reducers) for 24 hours prior to returning to school.  Absences of three or more days due to illness, requires a doctor’s note.

From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:
All Students:  The gym and weight room will be closed this week from Monday, December 14th through Thursday, December 17th.  Please study hard and prepare for your exams.
Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

From Yearbook Advisor, Mr. Honzaki:
Student Athletes:  Please check the MPR to see when your sports team is scheduled to take their yearbook photo.  Athletes need to check in with the photographer one hour prior to the game start time, and be in full uniform.  Please be prompt.  Students not present at the time of photo may not be included with their team in the yearbook.  Depending on climate conditions, your photo may need to be rescheduled.
