From the MS Principal, Mrs. Atta:

We are looking forward to the upcoming Spirit Week activities. During a pumpkin eating contest sponsored by the HS Student Council, the 7th graders won the rights to the Roaring 20’s and the 8th graders have the Age of the Sputnik 50’s.

Spirit Week Dress Code (MS Students Only):
1.      With your Christian Emphasis Week (CEW) T-Shirts or theme-of-the-day attire, you may wear HBA uniform bottoms or single-colored full-length jeans. No holes or frayed edges in the full-length jeans.

2.      No modified T-shirts. No cut-designed holes in T-Shirts.

All skirts and T-shirts must meet HBA’s expected dress standards.  No inappropriate or suggestive material or text on clothing.  Skirts or shorts are no higher than 3” above the knee.
Lunch Loans Procedure: MS Front Office (Mrs. Matsushima) is able to loan lunch money to students. While part of the middle grades experience requires students to assume increased levels of responsibility, providing a student with a lunch loan three times in a quarter will not encourage irresponsibility. The bottom line is providing hungry students with a healthy lunch creates a win-win situation for everyone.
  • A student without lunch money or lunch reports to the school's office. A member of the administration or office staff issues the student a loan.
  • The student must repay the cost of the lunch loan to the school's office within two school days.
  • If the debt is not repaid within two days, the student must contact his parents from the school office to explain the loan process and the debt owed to the school.
  • The student remains responsible for the debt that now must be paid back the next school day.
  • If the debt is not repaid, the student enters the school's disciplinary process.
  • The recovered funds are used to support the loan program.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Mrs. Atta via email catta@hba.net or call 595-6302.

Reminders:

Our BeAttitude Focus:  Be Thoughtful :
Students who are nominated by their advisory/homeroom teachers will receive awards with gift cards at the February BeAttitudes Assembly.  Students demonstrated actions that displayed:

•    Doing what you can to help others without expecting anything in return.
•    Not laughing at others’ misfortunes or mistakes.
•    Helping your parents or teachers when they are busy or stressed by doing your chores or passing out supplies in the classroom without being asked.
•    Befriending a new or lonely student at school. Choose your words with thought.
•    Show listening attentively to parents, teachers or friends through eye contact and verbal feedback.  A good friend will stop another friend from gossiping or spreading rumors.

From Registrar, Mrs. Archpru:  Period Attendance on the Report Card

The period attendance on the report card on the 2nd quarter report cards show attendance figures including the 1st and 2nd quarter totals. In the future, period attendance will show the current quarter only.

Should you have any questions you can contact Helen Archpru, Registrar at 564-0317 or email her at harchpru@hba.net.

From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:
