Announcements:
NJHS Project: Come to the Starstruck Café May 28th!
Attention all students and parents!  Please join us on Thursday, May 28, in the MPR for our first-ever STARSTRUCK CAFE!  This event, sponsored by the NJHS, will be a casual "drop in" coffee shop, open from 4-7 pm.  Throughout the event, a talented line-up of performers will entertain us, and baked goods and refreshments will be available for purchase. Parents will receive a FREE COFFEE!

Class of 2013:  A Wonderful Donation!
Mr.& Mrs. Lance Nishihara (Logan 8T) has made and donated a surfboard for the “blessed eighth students.  One name from the pool of students who have lost no eagles the entire year will be pulled.  These Servanst with Integrity will have an opportunity to receive a 5’6” modern, wing swallow, fish surfboard with 2 Corinthians 5:17. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (NIV) The beautiful board is in the Front Office for all to see.
Resources for Parents:
Attached to this bulletin are two handouts to help with summer activities:  Reading Connection on summer reading and Middle Years describing different things your child might enjoy doing.

Reminders:

End of Year Exams:

➢    On May 27th and 28th Gr. 7th will be completing their course exams and Gr. 8th will be taking the Comprehensive Testing Program Exam.

➢    On June 1st and 2nd school will be dismissed earlier after exams at 10:50 a.m. Gr. 7th will be taking a Comprehensive Testing Program Exam on these two days including a third day June 3rd and Gr. 8th will be completing their course exams.

➢    Be prepared and don’t procrastinate!

➢    Snackbar will be opened during breaks.

➢    All FLEX program classes do not have final exams except the World Language courses: Japanese and Spanish.  For Gr. 8th, teachers will be sending letters with the information on the placement testing dates.

➢    On June 1st and 2nd dismissal at 10:50 a.m., no student should be on campus after 11:00 a.m. unless permission is granted.  Students waiting for a ride must wait at the front of the campus on the front lanai.

➢    If your child misses any exam due to illness, please call the office to arrange a time to take his/her test.  It is imperative that all tests are made up promptly as report cards cannot be finalized and printed until all grades have been processed.

➢    All student lockers need to be cleaned by Wednesday, June 3rd after the last exam.

Are you demonstrating this month’s BeAttitude Focus:  Be Presevering?
Showing perseverance is:
•    Finding discipline within yourself, not just outside yourself. Not waiting to be told or reminded. Not giving up when the first thing goes wrong.
•    Holding your self accountable for meeting commitments. Asking for help when you need it. Finishing most projects you start. Be a joyful giver.
•    Setting goals and working toward them regularly. Giving 110% to all of your activities.
•    Living lives as a peacemaker. Getting rid of habits that don’t help me to live as God wished me to live with others; as children of God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)
the ABCs of the YESS System:

ABC BeAttitude
You choose your…Attitude.
You choose your…Behavior.
You reap the results in Celebration or Consequence.

Summer Sports in HBA Gym on Hold:
HBA is planning to replace the bleachers and the lights in the gym this upcoming summer. As such, everything usually scheduled in the gym will either be reduced or eliminated fro this summer only. These include summer volleyball and basketball practices, the intermediate basketball summer league, the annual HBA Eagle Hoop Camp and the annual HBA Volleyball Skills Clinic (However, most of our sport teams will continue to participate in leagues hosted by other ILH schools). The bleacher and light projects will have to be done separately and may total up to eight weeks in length. If the down time is shorter than expected and we are able to host any activities, we will disseminate the information as soon as it becomes available. Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

UPCOMING EVENTS:

From Athletic Director, Mr. Oshiro:

1.  All Spring Sport Athletes:  Please launder and return your school issued uniforms to the athletic office as soon as possible.  Uniforms should be bagged and labeled with your name.  Seniors, remember that this is part of your graduation checklist.  If you fail to turn in your uniforms, you won't be allowed to walk at graduation.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

2.  All 8th-11th Grade Boys and Girls:  If you're interested in playing basketball this summer, please come pick up a summer practice and game schedule from the athletic office.  Everyone is welcome, no experience is necessary.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

3.  All Varsity Athletes:  Please turn in your form and payment for the Varsity Athletic Banquet as soon as possible.  The deadline was a week ago, but there are still a few of you yet to sign up.  I'll accept your registration through this week or when we reach 400 expected guests, whichever comes first.  Come see me at the athletic office if you have any questions.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

4.  All 7th Grade Boys and Girls:  If you're interested in playing basketball this summer, please continue to be patient.  We are still awaiting the summer league schedule from Mid-Pacific and we're still working on your respective practice schedules.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

5.  All 7th-11th Grade Girls:  If you're interested in playing volleyball this summer, please come pick up a summer practice schedule from the athletic office.  Everyone is welcome, no experience is necessary.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro
