Scripture: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares
the
Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope
and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and
I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me
with all your heart.” - Jeremiah 29:11-13

Mrs. Atta, Mrs. Quek, All
From the MS Principal, Mrs. Atta:
You may have heard on Friday some of our 8th graders were involved in a bus accident. A letter was sent home on Friday with each 8th grader. Some confusion may have arisen as there was an earlier bus accident involving other students that were also sent to HMC-West. For your information, the body of the Friday letter was as follows:
Two of three Ground Transportation buses carrying our eighth graders were involved in an accident earlier today on the H-1. The eighth graders were on their way to Hawaiian Waters Park for their annual field trip. All students were checked at the accident site by medical personnel. Five students were sent to HMC (St. Francis) –West for further observation and eventually released. Two students returned home with parents, while the other three students joined their class at the water park. Faculty member Mr. Sprankle accompanied our students to the hospital.
We thank the Lord for keeping our students close to him. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 595-6302 or via email to catta@hba.net.
Mr. Moyer, HBA’s Vice President went to the hospital to support the students at the hospital and meet with Mr. Sprankle. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. Mrs. Kealoha, HBA’s school nurse, and I went to support and check on the students and faculty who had continued on to the Hawaiian Waters Park. Thank you to our 8th Grade Team at the park: Mrs. Morihara, Ms. Lee, Mrs. Yoshioka, Mrs. Tenney, Mrs. Quek Mr. Witsell, Mr. Coryell also, to our HS faculty volunteers: Mr. Lockridge and Mr. Honzaki and especially to our field trip parent volunteer, Mrs. Griffin.
Announcements:
➢ 7th Grade Parents: Please complete the attached 09-10 Expansion of the FLEX Program and turn it into the Front Office by June 3, 2009.
➢ End-of-the-Year Student Behavior: There is sometimes a tendency for students to do things during the last days of school that they may not normally do. Serious or repeated infractions of school rules may result in the immediate suspension of the student for the remainder of the school year. The student will be given zeroes on any final exams for school days lost as a result and grades will be lowered accordingly. In addition, conferences will be held with parents to determine whether or not their child will return during the 2009-2010 school year.
➢ You are responsible to turn in all your rental textbooks no later than your final exam dates. Be sure to follow your teachers’ instructions on how to turn in your books. For all library books and fines see Ms. Okazaki. If you turn in any books after June 3rd, please drop them off at the middle school office not to the classroom. A lost book a fee will be assessed if your book is not returned. Damaged books are subject to fee. A letter about the lost or damaged books will be sent home to your parents.
➢ Weekly Bulletins and Resources for Parents: Middle School provides weekly bulletins in the Monday Folders for you to bring home. It consumes many trees and is costly. Beginning next year, the bulletins will be posted only on the school website. A file hard copy will be kept in the office and each classroom. Any family that does not have access to the web, please have your parents call Ms. Matsushima, MS Front Office, at 595-6302 to request a hard copy to be sent home with you next year. The PDF and web distribution rights have been purchased for the Middle Years and Reading Connection publications, they will also be available on the school website. Go to : www.hba.net

As we come to the close of this year, I believe we have all demonstrated this month’s BeAttitude Focus: Be Persevering. Good job Eagles and thank you!
Showing perseverance is: •
Finding discipline within yourself, not just outside yourself. Not
waiting to be told or reminded. Not giving up when the first thing goes
wrong. • Holding your self accountable for meeting commitments.
Asking for help when you need it. Finishing most projects you start. Be
a joyful giver. • Setting goals and working toward them regularly. Giving 110% to all of your activities. •
Living lives as a peacemaker. Getting rid of habits that don’t help me
to live as God wished me to live with others; as children of God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)
the ABCs of the YESS System:
ABC BeAttitude You choose your…Attitude. You choose your…Behavior. You reap the results in Celebration or Consequence.
Our thoughts and best wishes go with you and your family. Have a safe and blessed summer!
