Eagles, Job Well Done! Last week was a wonderful first week back, we celebrated
HBA’s 60th Birthday with a historical look at how our school was back then and developed into the campus we have today. The students were amazed that there were only 3 graduates in the first year. Laughed as teachers shared stories about themselves as students at HBA “passing notes through the holes in the walls between classrooms” and the MPR sits on the old tennis courts that the HBA students volleyed and played on. Listened respectfully and with keen interest as Mr. Hom described the missionaries who came to start HBA in 1949 through a PowerPoint provided by Ms. Sharon Hagio, Development Office. Ms. Hagio, historian and “salt” that kept the faith in making HBA what it was and is today. Thanks to all who came before us and believed in our students and mission. Please when you get a chance come and see the Dan Kong Donor Wall near the MPR.
Christian Emphasis Week: Theme “Persevere”I’ve been so pleased with you and your behavior during CEW. It was a powerful week. Please remember theme was “Persevere.” This is what the missionaries and everyone involved in HBA has done have faith and continued to hope and work. Thank you to Mr. Lockridge and Ms. Gruspe for their hard work and vision. Consider the focus this month, please continue to pickup your trash and remind your friends to do the same.
YESS System: ABC BeAttitude April Focus Be PerseveringShowing perseverance is:
• Finding discipline within yourself, not just outside yourself. Not waiting to be told or reminded. Not giving up when the first thing goes wrong.
• Holding your self accountable for meeting commitments. Asking for help when you need it. Finishing most projects you start. Be a joyful giver.
• Setting goals and working toward them regularly. Giving 110% to all of your activities.
• Living lives as a peacemaker. Getting rid of habits that don’t help me to live as God wished me to live with others; as children of God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:9)I hope this month you will remember what Nick and all the other seminar leaders said and demonstrated. Nick especially touched many of us by his courage and honesty during CEW assemblies. Reflect as you choose your actions and behavior this month at home, in school and in our community. We take care of ourselves, each other and this place.
the ABCs of the YESS System:
ABC BeAttitude
You choose your…Attitude.
You choose your…Behavior.
You reap the results in Celebration or Consequence.
Your Choices build your Character.
Ask your friends for help to persevere; to be your best self as Pythagoras said
Friends are as companions on a journey, who ought to aid each other to persevere in the road to a happier life.
