*=Repeat Announcements
9th-12th Grades:

1.    Students and Faculty:  Congratulations HBA!  I am so proud to be an Eagle.  Last Monday's blood drive for the community was a great success and the result of SO MANY coming together to support it.  Seventy-nine people participated and we collected 61 pints for the Blood Bank of Hawaii, serving the state of Hawaii.  That is an amazing goal for a school our size!  Nearly all of you that were eligible to give blood, tried!  Thank you!  A special thanks to the staff who hosted and brought food, the teachers and the nurse for the extra work, and the NHS officers for leading us.  I am proud to be a teacher at HBA because of you!  {Mrs. Nakano}

2.    Controlling Influenza at School – There is much concern about the current outbreak of swine flu.  Fortunately, there haven’t been any confirmed cases in Hawaii; however, it’s a good time to remind students (and adults) to practice good hygiene habits to help control the spread of germs:
➢    Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.
➢    Cover your mouth and nose with tissues when sneezing and coughing.
➢    Avoid sharing drinks, water bottles, eating utensils, and pencils.
➢    Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
Parents are reminded not to send children to school when they are ill.  You should also see a physician
if you have a cough, sore throat, body aches, or malaise that is accompanied by a fever.  For more information about the swine influenza, please visit the CDC Web site: http://www.cdc.gov/swineflu/
[J. Kealoha]
