9th-12th Grades:
  1. Valentine's Day is coming up!  The NHS will be having a Valentine's card and candy sale Tuesday morning as well as Wednesday and Thursday lunch.  Buy a homemade card and candy for your sweetheart and friends!  Cards will be delivered Friday during homeroom.  --The NHS {Mrs. Nakano}
  2. Please come to today's Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting during lunch period in the gym.  Pizza will be available and the 3 small group ministries for Communication, Evangelism, and Legacy will be holding their meetings.  {Mr. Namba}
  3. To All Homerooms: During homecoming some of you had borrowed brushes, paints, and tape from the Art Department.  Please return whatever supplies are left as soon as possible.  Thank you.  {Mr. Kaneshiro}
  4. Re-enrollment contracts were mailed home to all K-11th graders.  They are due by March 2nd.  Please remind your parents to mail your contracts using the return envelope.  {Mrs. Lee}
  5. Foodland’s Shop for Higher Education Program will be starting on February 11, 2009 and continue through March 24, 2009.  This program helps schools to earn college scholarships for high school seniors across the state.  Be sure to designate HBA when shopping at Foodland to help our school earn Maika’i Points.  HBA’s school code is 7521.  Thank you for your support.  {Mrs. Lee}
  6. PRESIDENT'S ALOHA COUNCIL-There will be picture-taking for the yearbook for all PAC members today during the first 5 minutes of lunch on the front steps of the main Administration Building.  Please be prompt and in-place by 12:30 p.m.  A smile, a snap, and you can be off to lunch if EVERYONE is on-time!

  7. From the Athletic Director (Mr. Oshiro):

    1. All Winter Sport Athletes:  Once your season is completed, please launder, bag and label your school issued uniforms and return to the athletic office.
    2. All Students:  If you're interested in a spring sport, please take note of the REVISED try out information posted around campus and online on the athletics page of the school website.  Please come to the athletic office if you have any questions.
    3. All Students:  Just a reminder that there is no bus transportation for athletics on early release days.  Tuesday, February 10th is an early release day with all of you getting out of school around 12:35 PM.  Please plan accordingly. 
    4. If you're interested in trying out for track and field (all levels) or softball (intermediate only), try outs begin TODAY, Monday, February 9th at Kapiolani Park.  If you need a ride to the park, please meet the bus near the grassy area of the middle school by 3:00 PM.  Be sure to arrange for your own transportation home from Kapiolani Park at 6:00 PM.
    5. All Boys:  If you're interested in volleyball, try outs begin this week.  Intermediate try outs for 7th and 8th graders begin TODAY, Monday, February 9th, from 4:30-6:30 PM in the gym.  They will continue Tuesday from 1:30-3:30 PM in the gym.  JV and varsity try outs for 9th-12th graders will be Wednesday and Thursday, February 11th-12th, 4:30-6:30 PM in the gym.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro
    6. All Students:  Our girls and boys varsity basketball teams are doing well and both are competing not just for berths in their respective HHSAA State Basketball Championship Tourneys, but also ILH titles as well.  They both have BIG games this Tuesday, February 10th, here at HBA...the girls (9-2) face undefeated Maryknoll at 5:00 PM, while the boys (8-1) take on undefeated Kamehameha at 6:30 PM.  Come out and support your classmates and show your school spirit and pride.  Admission is FREE! 
    7. All 9th-12th Graders:  If you're interested in jv or varsity golf, try outs begin TODAY, Monday, February 9th at Waikele Golf Course.  Please leave your golf bags OUTSIDE the gym hallway on the lanai, but out of the way of the foot traffic.  If you need a ride to the golf course, please meet the bus near the grassy area of the middle school by 3:00 PM.  Be sure to arrange for your own transportation home from Waikele at 6:30 PM.
    8. All Students Age 16 and Older:  The athletic department is looking for a few students to work as ILH scorers and timers for the upcoming spring boys volleyball season.  The pay is $10.00 per match.  We prefer that you have some previous scorekeeping experience with USAV or ILH volleyball, but it's not necessary.  If you're interested and consider yourself responsible, conscientious and reliable, please see me or Coach Keith in the athletic office.
9th Grade:  There will be no advisory period this Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2009.  Please report to your homeroom teacher.  {Mrs. Hirae}

9th-11th Grades:
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey on our food service and return it to your homeroom teachers as soon as possible.

Also, Mr. Namba is looking for a few students from each grade to participate in focus groups later this month about our food service.  These groups will meet during lunch period and a free lunch will be provided for you.  The discussion will be kept anonymous and questions will center around improving our food service.  Mr. Namba and Mr. Kawamoto (Sodexho manager for the high school) will be attending the group sessions.  If you are interested in being considered for these focus groups, please let Mrs. Uyehara know as soon as possible.

10th Grade:  Sophomores--If you have a regular or post-season athletics event that conflicts with camp, please remember to have your parents sign a "Time Away From Camp" form.  You may pick these up from the Christian Ministries Department.  Also, please check with the athletic office regarding transportation information.  Thanks, Mr. Oshiro

11th-12th Grades:
*Juniors and Seniors-This year's Jr. Sr. banquet will be held on Monday March 23rd at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.  Tickets will be available the week of February 17-27 in the mall area.  Tickets are $48.00-checks made payable to HBA.  This year, ticket contracts can be downloaded from the HBA website (www.hba.net) under the Student Life/High School section.  Please note that there is only one form for both HBA and non-HBA guests, and only the second page of the contract needs to be printed.  {Mr. Yokotake}

12th Grade:  *Seniors--Please be sure to submit pictures for the slide show.  We will be collecting them until the end of the month.  Email them to:  jrsrbanquet2009@gmail.com.  {Mr. Yokotake}
