The HBA girls varsity basketball team claimed the championship of the 15th Annual Seabury Hall Wahine Classic with a 27-24 victory over Leilehua High on December 5th. The tourney was held December 3rd through 5th at the Eardman Athletic Center on the Seabury Hall campus in Makawao, Maui.
Senior guard Jennifer Young made a three-pointer from the right wing as time expired to lift the Lady Eagles to the exciting win in the title game. The Lady Mules – who never trailed in the game until the final margin - had leads of 4-1, 13-5 and 22-12 entering the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters of play respectively. But HBA turned up the defensive pressure and managed to outscore Leilehua 15-2 in the final period of play.
Earlier in the tournament, HBA defeated host Seabury Hall 38-24 and King Kekaulike 45-39 to reach the championship final. Besides Leilehua, other teams involved in the tournament were Maui High, Campbell High, Punahou II and Kamehameha (Maui Campus).
The HBA girls continue pre-season, non-league play December 9th at Kalani High and December 12th at Waipahu High.
