HBA Upsets Kamehameha

For the first time in recent memory, the HBA girls varsity volleyball team defeated Kamehameha 20-25, 25-19, 26-24.

The September 27th match – which took place at Kamehameha’s Kekuhaupi’o Gymnasium – signaled the end of the Warriors’ 12 match winning streak.

Kamehameha (12-1) is the four-time defending division I state champion.  HBA (11-2) is the two-time defending division II state champion.

The match was marked by several long rallies and series of scoring runs by both teams.  In the final set, Kamehameha led 11-7 before HBA rallied to knot the score at 11-11.  The Warrriors then led 22-20 before the Eagles scored four straight points to earn its first match point.  Kamehameha, however, staved off the point and eventually tied it at 24-24 all.  A Warrior net violation gave HBA another opportunity at the match.  Senior Sarah Palmer delivered a hard shot in the middle that was dug up quickly but a little too far up and over the net.  She then rebounded up and pushed the ball to the floor emphatically with both hands to deliver the final point and end the match.
