Hawaii Student Film Festival
HBA student production crew from The Art and History of Film was honored with a Silver Award at the Hawaii Student Film Festival for the dramatic short "Boxed In."
On Saturday, May 12th an HBA student production crew from The Art and History of Film was honored with a Silver Award at the Hawaii Student Film Festival for the dramatic short "Boxed In." This film about a group of students with diverse problems and varying backgrounds who are forced to work on a collaborative English assignment was one of four short films produced by HBA film students this year. Winning a plaque and cash prize of $150, the production crew of "Boxed In" included the following students:

Gavin Hagiwara (grade 12)
Dominic Hart (grade 12)
Kylie Matsumoto (grade 11)
James Kon (grade 12)
Brittany Nagasawa (grade 11)
Ethan Young (grade 12)
Rachel Dang (grade 11)
Mic Ogawa (grade 12)
Justin Seo (grade 10)
The other films produced by HBA’s film students were "Letters and lockers," "Freemail" and "The Windows Between." The production of these movies took five months and included over one hundred people in the casts and crews. For the project the students had to write screenplays, draw story boards, scout for locations, design costumes, sets and lighting, act, direct, film, edit and promote their films with posters, tie-in products, production stills, movie trailers and websites as well complete legal forms in order to submit their films for television broadcast and for entry in local, national and international film festivals.
