More than $3,200 was donated by students, parents and staff at the elementary campus for
H2O for Haiti, a fundraising initiative to help provide clean water for families in Haiti. The effort was sponsored by the student council and Watering Malawi Club.
Donations were collected on Feb. 3 at chapel, which coincided with BOB Day (Building One Body). During the service, students were reminded that they are all part of a universal church—one body. God often calls people to help others in need, even those in other countries whom they may never meet.
“I was so touched by everyone’s effort to raise money for Haiti, especially our students,” said Dr. Ruby Ovitt, principal of the elementary campus. “They showed God’s love through their actions, and compassion toward people in crisis through their generous giving.”
Devin, a fourth-grader, was inspired to hold a fundraiser at his church. With some help from his family, he held a sandwich and nacho event after service and raised $262, which he donated to the
H2O for Haiti effort at HBA.
The money raised will purchase 106 water purification systems for Haitian families. The systems will be provided by Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief units—a ministry that provides quick response and emergency support during times of disaster around the world.
